data reuse
What is the difference between The use of data and data reuse?
The use of data is related to the original context in which it was produced, e.g. for a specific research project by the team carrying out that project.
Reuse is when data made available in a specific place, usually a repository, is used by someone else.
However, data deposited in a repository can also be (re)used by its author or co-author in another, later project. There are also organisations that collect and archive data for the needs of entire scientific communities, e.g. astronomical data, and organisations that collect data of critical importance to public administration, e.g. statistical offices, which may also make their resources available to the scientific community. The data collected and compiled in these contexts is typically of high quality and consistency due to the standards adopted by the above organisations.
Reuse of data collected by other researchers as part of another scientific project requires an assessment of the data for relevance, appropriateness, and relevance to the project. Use must be in accordance with the legal restrictions assigned to it. Data released under a specific licence may be used in accordance with the freedoms set out in that licence. Fair use also includes appropriate citation of data.
